I have a reprieve - some more internet time because our departure for
Turkana has been delayed a bit  -  par for the course in Africa. One
gets used to forgetting about looking at your watch and just goes with
the flow.

Have you ever wondered what happens to all those unsold items of
clothing from Goodwill, Salvation Army, World Thrift and other thrift
shops? Well, I have the answer. They are here in Africa, lined up on
ropes or in piles at the road side stalls all over the country. They
arrive here by the ton in huge bales and are bought and sold all over
the country. All this stuff is called "mitumba". There are very few
places outside of the cities that carry new clothes. People either buy
mitumba or have their clothes made to order by one of the many tailors.
Every day I see t-shirts that say something you know comes from the US,
like"Broome County F.D" or "University of Kansas". All those peace in
Kenya t-shirts are mitumba. Right now I'm wearing a lime green stretchy
one from the Gap- not bad for less than 50 cents.
